Description

Hüti peatland is located in the southern part of Hiiu county, 16 km southwest of the city of Kärdla. The Käina-Luidja road remains in the northern part. The peat formed by paludification, feeds on groundwater, water recipient is the Lugusoo main ditch. The peat lies on sand. The peat deposit is recultivated. The area of the peatland is 452 ha, of which 122 ha is peat deposit. Peat reserve, 0.47 million tons are all potentially economic reserves (Orru, 1995). Only  eutrophic peat layer spreads, consisting of well-decomposed (42%) wood-sedge, sedge andwood- reed peat, thickness 1.10 ... 1.40 m, ash content is 8.9%, moisture content is 86% (drained area). As the deposit is rich in the wood peat, its further use as cultivated grassland should be continued. Not included in the list of peatlands suitable for mining prepared by the Ministry of the Environment (Regulation no. 87; 27.12.2016).
