Analysis of the ichnofaunal assemblage from flyschoid turbiditic basinal strata of the Waterville Formation of Maine, first described by Emmons in 1844, suggests that of the historically described ichnotaxa from the sequence, 1) Nereites lanceolata Emmons, 1844 is a junior synonym of Nereites cambrensis Murchison, 1839, 2) Myrianites sillimani Emmons, 1844, Myrianites murchisoni Emmons, 1844 and Nereites deweyi Emmons, 1844 are junior synonyms of Nereites macleayii (Murchison, 1839) and, 3) Nereites loomisii Emmons, 1844 and Nereites gracilis Emmons, 1844 are the basal burrow expressions of ?Dictyodora scotica (M'Coy, 1851). With the exception of N. pugnus and N. jacksoni, no material of which is currently available, each of the former ichnospecies are described based on both new and previously collected specimens.
