Abstrakt
A new tubular, remarkably large, trace fossil from the Upper Jurassic of the Iberian Chain (Spain) is described and figured. The trace somewhat resembles the ichnogenus Planolites in shape and development, except for its giant size, thus the new name Megaplanolites is proposed. The material in which it occurs (marly and slightly sandy limestones) suggests shallow carbonate shelf to littoral conditions. The rectilinear to strongly curved form of the gutters makes it possible to interpret the fossil either as displacement (Repichnia) or browsing traces (Pascichnia). The creature of such huge traces is, up to the moment, unknown, though it could have been alarge worm.
